This service offers a special programme, which lasts three years, with weekly individual psychotherapy or group discussions combined for the first year, for the opiate users, with the subministration of Naltrexone, a medicine which does not allow heroin to have effect.
First a week long detoxication takes place, then Naltrexone is taken orally. Its effect is long lasting, it does not create any dependency and has no drug characteristics. This particular protocol is specifically recommended for those individuals who have a strong motivation to abandon drugs and who are well placed in the social context.
This medicine protects the patient during the rehabilitation programme while he is in the condition to reorganize his own life, while continuing to live in his original environment.
As there is no antagonist for cocaine users, as in the case of naltrexone for heroin, other medicines are used if needed.
In addition the centre pays particular attention to those users with a fragile psychiatric condition who cannot have access to public psychiatric services.
